Wi-Fi & Internet Help Perth

Your computer or devices can be connected to Wi-Fi while the internet still does not work. The problem might be the computer, Wi-Fi connection, modem or router, home network, or the internet service itself. PcRiot provides onsite Wi-Fi and internet help in Perth to work out where the connection is failing and fix the problems that can be repaired in your home.

Wi-Fi Connected but No Internet?

Seeing the Wi-Fi symbol does not necessarily mean your internet connection is working. It only tells you that the device has connected to a wireless network.

If websites will not load, email has stopped working, streaming devices are offline or one computer cannot get online, the useful question is not simply “Is the Wi-Fi working?” It is where is the connection actually failing?

Common possibilities include:

  • πŸ’» A problem affecting one computer, laptop, phone or other device.
  • πŸ“Ά A Wi-Fi connection, signal or configuration problem.
  • 🌐 A modem or router fault or incorrect setup.
  • 🏠 A problem elsewhere in the home network.
  • πŸ”Œ A cabling, NBN connection or internet service problem.

PcRiot can troubleshoot the connection from the affected device through to the modem or router, rather than assuming the first symptom identifies the cause.

One Device Offline or the Whole House?

One of the quickest ways to narrow down an internet problem is to check whether other devices are affected.

If your phone still has internet over the same Wi-Fi but your computer does not, the problem is much more likely to be with that computer or its network connection. If every device in the house has lost internet access, attention shifts toward the modem, router, NBN connection or internet provider.

This distinction can prevent a lot of unnecessary changes. There is little value resetting an entire home network because one laptop has a problem, just as repeatedly changing settings on a computer will not repair a failed modem or an upstream service outage.

Home Internet Troubleshooting Without Guesswork

There are a few sensible checks worth trying before arranging help:

  • βœ“ Check whether other devices can access the internet.
  • βœ“ Disconnect and reconnect the affected device to Wi-Fi.
  • βœ“ Restart the affected computer, phone or device.
  • βœ“ Restart the modem or router once.
  • βœ“ Check obvious cables and modem or router status lights.

If the problem remains after those checks, it is usually better to diagnose it properly than continue changing settings at random.

Blind factory resets, repeated Windows network resets, random DNS changes and removing network drivers can create extra problems without fixing the original fault. A factory reset can also erase working Wi-Fi names, passwords, ISP settings and other configuration that may be useful during diagnosis.

Modem and Router Help Perth

The modem or router is often blamed whenever the internet stops, but it is only one part of the connection.

PcRiot can check modem and router behaviour, Wi-Fi operation, Ethernet connections, local network settings and the devices trying to connect to them. Problems can include failed Wi-Fi bands, incorrect configuration, unstable connections, poor wireless coverage, DHCP or addressing problems, damaged cabling, or ageing hardware that is no longer operating reliably.

If replacement equipment is required, I can explain what has failed and what you need rather than leaving you to guess which device to buy or what to tell your provider.

Wi-Fi Problems Around the Home

Sometimes the internet connection itself is fine but Wi-Fi performance varies from room to room. Devices may disconnect, become extremely slow, connect only near the router, or struggle in parts of the house.

That can be caused by router placement, distance, building materials, interference, unsuitable Wi-Fi settings or the way access points, extenders or mesh equipment have been configured.

PcRiot provides home network help in Perth for these problems as well as complete connection failures. The aim is to establish whether the problem is coverage, equipment, configuration or the internet service before changing hardware unnecessarily.

Computer Internet Connection Problems

If other devices are online but one computer is not, the internet service may have nothing wrong with it.

The affected computer can have incorrect network settings, a damaged Wi-Fi profile, adapter or driver problems, security software interference, DNS problems, proxy settings, Windows networking faults or other software issues that prevent a working network connection from being used properly.

These are particularly good candidates for onsite troubleshooting because the computer and the network can be tested together. That makes it possible to determine whether the fault follows the device or stays with the connection.

What If the Problem Is With Your ISP or NBN?

PcRiot is not an internet service provider and cannot repair faults inside an ISP or NBN network. What I can do is isolate the problem far enough to determine when the equipment and network inside your home are working and the remaining fault appears to be upstream.

That can make dealing with your provider considerably easier. Instead of simply reporting that “the internet doesn’t work”, you can have a clearer picture of what has already been tested, which equipment is working and where the failure appears to begin.

If the fault is something that can be corrected onsite, in the computer, Wi-Fi setup, modem or router configuration, cabling or home network, I can usually deal with it directly.
