Windows 10 Support Ends in Two Weeks – What Perth Users Should Do Now
With just two weeks left until Microsoft ends Windows 10 security updates on 14 October 2025, any PC still running the OS will be exposed to new vulnerabilities, ransomware and malware; this deadline is confirmed in Microsoft’s lifecycle notice. For personalised guidance, visit our Windows Help page.
What “end of support” really means
- 🛑 No more security patches, even for critical flaws
- 🚫 No new features or quality-of-life updates
- ⚠️ Third-party software and hardware makers may drop Windows 10 testing
Your three main options
1. Upgrade to Windows 11
If your PC meets Microsoft’s hardware requirements (TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, 8th-gen Intel or newer, etc.), Windows 11 is the best long-term path. PcRiot offers a competitively priced upgrade service, covering data backup, Windows 11 installation, driver checks and post-upgrade tuning. Book an assessment or upgrade through our contact page.
2. Replace outdated hardware
Machines that fail the Windows 11 check are usually five years old or more. Replacing them now avoids a yearly ESU fee and delivers a faster, more secure experience.
3. Enrol in Extended Security Updates (ESU)
For organisations that truly can’t upgrade in time, Microsoft sells an ESU subscription. Pricing starts at about US $61 / ≈AU $95 per device for businesses in year one and doubles annually. Consumers outside Europe must enable Windows Backup and pay roughly US $30 (or redeem Microsoft Rewards points) for the first year, while users in the European Economic Area (EEA) get ESU free. Note: ESU only buys time until October 2026 and covers security patches only.
Why delaying is costly
- 💸 ESU costs stack every year and do not include new features
- 📑 Insurance and compliance frameworks increasingly require supported OS versions
- 🔓 Cyber incidents rise sharply after OS end-of-life – attackers know defenders are lagging
