Let’s not beat around the bush: New Outlook is hot garbage.
It’s a clunky, stripped-down clone of a product that millions rely on daily. And yet Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, keeps ramming it down our throats.
You didn’t ask for it. You didn’t agree to switch. You probably didn’t even notice it creep in—until your calendar broke, half your options vanished, and your email started behaving like it was drunk.
And now, even after switching back to Outlook Classic, some users are finding their PCs mysteriously flipping back to New Outlook. Automatically. Without permission.
Outlook Classic Is the Reason People Pay for Office 365
Let’s be clear: Outlook Classic is the MVP of Office 365. It’s the one app that makes the subscription worth it for countless businesses, professionals, and everyday users.
Remove that, and what are we paying for? Word? Excel? We’ve had those since the ‘90s.
The only reason most users haven’t jumped ship to cheaper or free alternatives is because Outlook Classic just works. It’s powerful, mostly stable, and familiar.
Microsoft cutting it off—slowly, sneakily—is like Apple removing the iPhone’s touchscreen because they “found a better way.” It’s dumb. And people are going to leave.
Why New Outlook Sucks
- No support for PSTs, POP accounts, or COM add-ins
- No offline functionality worth trusting
- Customization is gone
- You can’t even change the damn font properly
This isn’t progress. It’s regression with a shiny coat of paint.
It’s Not Just You—It Will Reinstall Itself
Even if you uninstall New Outlook and switch back, Microsoft:
- Might reinstall it during updates
- Might sync your settings from the cloud and turn it back on
- Might even hide the switch in future builds so you can’t escape
This is anti-user design. It’s hostile. It’s tone-deaf. And it shows how little Microsoft listens to the people actually using their tools.
How to Fight Back (for Now)
If you’re stuck dealing with this nonsense, here’s what you can do:
- Hide the “Try New Outlook” switch via the registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences]
"HideNewOutlookToggle"=dword:00000001
- Uninstall the New Outlook app if it crept in with Windows 11:
Get-AppxPackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | Remove-AppxPackage
- Switch to the Current Office update channel to avoid test builds
- Avoid signing in with Microsoft accounts that sync across devices
Microsoft: Stop Sabotaging the Product That Still Works
The world doesn’t need a prettier, dumber version of Outlook. We need reliability, control, and trust. Outlook Classic delivers that. New Outlook is a beta-tier email toy pretending to be an upgrade.
Microsoft: if you’re reading this. You’re alienating the users who pay you every month only because Outlook Classic is still alive.
If you kill it, don’t be surprised when we leave with it.
